Speaking at the annual Sid Watkins Lecture, hosted by the former F1 medical delegate's wife, Susan, who has penned the - yet to published - 'official' biography of Bernie Ecclestone, the F1 supremo gave his opinion on a number of issues.

On his pet subject, Silverstone: "If they don't rebuild it and put it in line with other third world circuits, there won't be a Silverstone."

The Belgian Grand Prix at Spa Francorchamps: "We'll get it sorted out. They want us to take on the promotion. I'm not happy about it but we need to keep Spa alive, don't we?"

On the future of Michael Schumacher, and whether this might be his last season in F1: "I wouldn't be surprised He's done very well, hasn't he, and probably gets a bit tired of chasing around the world."

On why, at the age of 75, he still puts himself through the stress of running F1, which despite the financial rewards, is a job that few others could do: "I've got nothing else to do."
