WilliamsF1 today confirmed the appointment of Jörg Zander as the company's Chief Designer, who replaces Gavin Fisher , complementing a re-structuring process which has seen the company strengthen its appointments to its primary technical posts, as well as establish a senior management group over recent months.
Zander, 41, joins Williams from BAR, where he held the post of Chief Engineer, Mechanics and Transmission. A Mechanical Engineering graduate of Cologne University, Jörg has over fifteen years of premier motorsport experience, including WRC & GT experience with Toyota and ITC experience with Opel/GM alongside his Formula One credentials. Across these competition categories, Jörg has developed a broad range of professional competencies appropriate for the role of Chief Designer.
Jörg will take up his appointment in September to lead the key decisions to be taken on the FW28 development.
His appointment complements the company's process of restructuring its primary technical posts which commenced with Patrick Head's change in role to Director of Engineering and Sam Michael's ensuing appointment as Technical Director; in 2004, Loic Bigois was promoted to Chief Aerodynamicist and Alex Burns's role was changed to Chief Operating Officer.
Zander will work closely with all of the company's technical heads, reporting directly to Technical Director, Sam Michael.
In relation to Jörg's appointment, Patrick Head said, "I am delighted that Jörg has decided to join Williams as Chief Designer, consolidating the process of restructuring WilliamsF1's key technical posts. I believe we have set the foundation for one of the strongest technical teams in Formula One, and I have every confidence that Jörg will make a considerable contribution to our ambitions for next season and beyond."
