WilliamsF1: It's not cut and dry, nor doom and gloom

Contrary to popular opinion, it is not cut and dry that Nick Heidfeld will leave WilliamsF1 for BMW at the end of this season.

Although WilliamsF1 knows, better than anyone else, the apparent worthlessness of drivers' signatures on contracts, the Grove team has an option on Nick Heidfeld for 2006, therefore it should not be assumed that the German will be heading off up the road with BMW, not unless a sizeable compensation package can be put together.

Furthermore, despite the air of doom and gloom that much of the media would have you believe is rife at Grove, there is one key factor that most pundits appear to have overlooked.

With BMW gone, WilliamsF1 will be free to sell the naming rights to the team. Therefore, at a time when some are claiming that there will be an exodus of sponsors, along with BMW, the fact that current, or potential, sponsors could have the team carry their name, and livery, is sure to appeal.
