Speaking in Hungary, Jacques Villeneuve has said that he is confident he will be retained by Sauber in 2006, even though the team has now been sold to BMW.
Asked what he thought his chances were of retaining his seat next season, the Canadian replied: "Well, as I have a contract my chances are very good".
Ironically, at this point Jenson Button - who is currently involved in a tug-of-war between BAR and WilliamsF1 - informed his former teammate (Villeneuve) that he believed he had misinterpreted the question, since Sauber had now been sold. Not so, according to the former World Champion: "Why should it change?" said Villeneuve. "The team was sold with all the contracts in place."
Asked to clarify that he was confident that he would keep his seat, Villeneuve said: "Yeah, I am not even questioning it."
