David Coulthard has warned that F1 drivers are prepared to go on strike, if their calls for improved safety go unheeded.
In an article for the Scottish tabloid, The Daily Record, the Red Bull driver warns that the second half of the season could be hit by a drivers' strike: "That's how strongly I and my fellow drivers feel over the safety concerns that have dogged us since last month's US Grand Prix," he writes.
"The drivers' meeting with FIA chief Max Mosley due to take place last Friday was disappointingly cancelled," he continued. "It has now been rescheduled for August 1, the first day of the mid-season break. But it should have taken place at Silverstone when all the drivers were together.
"Now it will only happen if at least half the drivers are able to attend. Already some , like Takuma Sato, cannot.
"I hope the meeting does goes ahead," he adds. "We want to ensure safety is the priority. It is entirely possible we could strike if we are forced to do something we don't feel is safe.
Hopefully that won't happen but if need be we will stick together and walk out. What happened at Indy has given everyone a shake."
