The new rules proposed for the 2008 season, show that the FIA is determined to prevent a reoccurrence of the tyre situation that threw the sport into chaos at Indianapolis.
Under the new proposals, teams would have access to an additional 'emergency' tyre.
Rule 12.5.3 states: "If, in the opinion of the appointed tyre supplier and FIA technical delegate, the nominated tyre specification proves to be technically unsuitable, the stewards may authorise the use of additional tyres to a different specification."
Under the FIA's proposals it is already planned that there will be a sole tyre supplier from 2008, though it has yet to be decided who this will be. The decision will be made following an invitation for tenders.
FIA president, Max Mosley, has made no secret of the fact the blames Michelin for the United States fiasco, and is clearly determined that there will be no repeat.
