At a press conference in Munich today, BMW confirmed that it will, for the first time, enter Formula One as a manufacturer of engine and chassis.
This means that the German manufacturer will purchase the Sauber team.
Speaking at the press conference, Prof. Dr. Burkhard Göschel, Member of the Board of Management of the BMW AG, Development and Purchasing, also said that his company hoped to continue its relationship with WilliamsF1 despite entering F1 as a manufacturer in its own right.
"Our aim is to win the world Championship," said Göschel, who added that he has full faith in the future stability of F1.
The name of the new team has yet to be decided.
