Patrick Head has revealed the secret of his long, and highly, successful partnership with Frank Williams.

The two men first worked together in the early 70s, following Williams' first forays into F1 with a Brabham, then the de Tomaso project, a March and finally the partnership with Canadian Walter Wolf.

After a poor season in 1975, Williams split with Wolf and decided to form his own team, taking the number two designer, Patrick Head, with him.

The rest is history.

Looking back on his, often turbulent, 30-year partnership with Williams, Head reveals the secret of its success.

"My job is to take care of the engineering side, while Frank is in charge of the business side," says the Englishman. "Sometimes our responsibilities overlap, but we always talk about every decision.

"The reason we can work together successfully for such a long time is that we don't 'spit in each other's soups'" he adds.

"If we don't go well at the races, Frank will come and ask me what's going on, while I will push him if we don't have enough money."
