Speaking at the launch of Australia's A1 Grand Prix team, Sheik Maktoum revealed that New Zealand is to run a franchise, which should ensure some great battles between the Antipodean rivals.
The franchise has been bought by entrepreneur businessman Colin Giltrap, though there is no news as to who might drive the car.
Australia and New Zealand both enjoy a long motor sport tradition, providing three world champions between them Jack Brabham (pictured) and Alan Jones, from Australia and Denny Hulme from New Zealand. Brabham also founded a legendary Formula One team, later bought by Bernie Ecclestone, while Kiwi Bruce McLaren founded the team that still carries his name.
