Mexico could be back on the 2006 F1 calendar if reports coming out of the country are true.
It's understood that having encountered problems purchasing the necessary land, and obtaining planning permission, as a result of environmental issues, for a race track near the beach resort of Cancun, organizers are now looking at an alternative location.
Despite a 15-day deadline, the secretary of state for tourism for the Quintana Roo province, Dario Flota, remains confident. "The problems are solved," he told the local media, referring to a new location just a few miles from the original site.
It's understood that entrepreneur Jose Chapur Zahoul is to provide land which is ready for use and free of the problems associated with previous sites.
In 2004, Mexican promoters signed a five-year deal with Bernie Ecclestone which will see the country back on the F1 calendar from 2006.
