The BMW WilliamsF1 Team completed a four day test at the Jerez circuit in Spain today. The team’s 2005 race drivers, Mark Webber and Nick Heidfeld, were on duty for the team and completed a comprehensive programme of set-up work and tyre testing in preparation for the season opener in Melbourne on 6th March.

Over the four days, Webber completed a total of 1,426kms, while team mate Heidfeld covered 1,833kms. The team will head to Barcelona next week for a three day test commencing on Tuesday.

Tim Newton (Test Team Manager, WilliamsF1): We’ve been in Jerez again this week with both Mark and Nick running in the FW27s. Throughout the week, the drivers concentrated on set-up evaluations as well as tyre testing with our partner, Michelin. The car has proved particularly reliable over the four days, allowing both drivers to clock up an impressive total of 3,259kms. This has provided us with invaluable data to work with in the weeks leading upto Melbourne.

Mario Theissen (BMW Motorsport Director): We had a successful test in Jerez this week having covered over 3,000kms and completed a full schedule, including a race simulation. On the engine side, we worked on perfecting starts and traction control. The main focus of the test, however, was on car set-up and tyre testing. We will be selecting the engine specification for Melbourne from the information we gathered this week
