The proposed Grand Prix Masters series, which would have seen former F1 stars pitted against one another in a one-make single-seater championship, has been postponed until 2006.
The series was due to begin later this year, but organizers are understood to have run into trouble securing the necessary funding, in addition to being unable to find enough (different) tracks on which to run the championship.
Rene Arnoux and Johnny Herbert had been linked with the series, as was former world champion Alan Jones.
Ironically, Jones is now involved in the team behind Australia's entry in the A1 Grand Prix series, which is understood to have stolen GP Masters' thunder. Another driver linked with GP Masters, Jan Lammers, is also now involved in A1 GP, which gets underway in September.
