Former Grand Prix star, and BMW Motorsport director, Gerhard Berger, has played down talk of a management role with the new Red Bull Racing Team.

Due to his considerable experience, and the fact that like team-owner Dietrich Mateschitz he is Austrian, Berger has been linked with the new outfit, indeed, Mateschitz has admitted that the former Ferrari, McLaren and Benetton star would be a useful addition to his team.

"I am not quite sure if I want to do that," Berger told Motorsport Aktuell. "But I keep close contact with Didi (Mateschitz). I am sure he would put in place an ideal platform for such a team.

"With a look at budgets however, it might be difficult to get everything up and running," he added. "But then again, Didi is not known for giving up easily. He sticks to his projects for quite some time and eventually turns them into a success."

With the team being based in England, Berger was asked if he felt it could be successfully run from the European mainland. "Not even Jean Todt could lead Ferrari via his mobile phone," replied the Austrian, with his customary humour." If you take up that job you have to be there 24 hours a day.

"Do I want to do this?" he asked, "I doubt it."
