Although several dates on the 2005 F1 calendar have yet to be confirmed, and the contracts for the British, French and San Marino events are 'under discussion', there were no asterisks beside Belgium's entry on the calendar.
If you remember, following an outrageous and totally unjustified attack by Belgian police on members of the media at this year's event, the FIA had promised to investigate and that therefore there was a question mark over the future of the event.
An FIA spokesman has confirmed to Pitpass that the issue has now been resolved, and the Belgian GP will go ahead as planned.
"We have received an apology and assurances from the police that such behaviour will not be repeated," said the spokesman. We will be monitoring police and security guard activity very closely next year.
The behaviour of the police was despicable and totally unwarranted, sadly this year is not the first time that such incidents have taken place at Spa.
We hope that if there is any repeat in 2005 or thereafter, the FIA will take the relevant action, apology or no apology.
