For some time, FIA president Max Mosley has been trying, with little apparent success, to get team bosses to agree to major cost-cutting reforms or risk spending spiralling out of control and the sport imploding.
Clearly, Mr Mosley has chosen to lead by example.
Here we see the FIA president at three different 2004 Grands Prix: Monaco, France and Japan, and at each event he is wearing the same tie. Indeed, the shirt and jacket look more than a little familiar.
It is outrageous that in a sport as wealthy as Formula One, the president of its governing body should be forced to resort to wearing the same tie week after week, race after race.
To hell with Silverstone, Jaguar and Cosworth, let's get our priorities right and get Max a new shirt and tie for Christmas.
Note: Sharp-eyed cynics (Brutus et al) will have noticed that the tie is predominantly red!
