As the F1 world considers the bid by Brand Synergy to host the British Grand Prix - a bid that few have given serious credence - Bernie Ecclestone has finally shown his hand, by offering to promote the Silverstone event himself.
"I have given the British Racing Drivers' Club (*BRDC) another option to consider," he told British tabloid The Daily Express, "because I want to preserve the British Grand Prix and this is one more possibility of doing so.
"Now they have myself and another offer to consider so with a bit of luck and the teams agreeing to 18 races, there should be a British Grand Prix."
So: This is Bernie offering to pay himself, presumably out of the $93m he received in compensation from Interpublic, for the rights to host a race at a circuit that he considers to be third world standard and an embarrassment.
Don't you just love him?
