It's understood that the organizers of the Hungarian GP, have secured a further five-year extension to the current contract, which will keep F1 at the Hungaroring until 2011.

Hungarian Prime Minister Medgyessy has officially announced the five-year extension of the event's contract.

The first event, in 1986, made history since it was the first race to be held behind the so-called 'Iron Curtain'. Since then F1, and indeed the world, has moved on, with China only weeks away from hosting its inaugural event.

Sadly, the layout of the Hungarian track has led to many uneventful races - with a couple of notable exceptions - while some will feel that the recent event, won by Michael Schumacher, actually felt as though it had been extended by five years, such was the tedium.

F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone is said to be impressed with the determination of the Hungarian Government, which is understood to have pumped around £7.4m ($13.5m) into this year's event. But then he would be, wouldn't he?
