One of the UK's most experienced racing drivers, Ralph Firman, will be at the wheel of the A1 Grand Prix car in Jerez next week. The former Formula 1 driver will share testing duties with the series General Manager, Stephen Watson.
Ralph went to Snetterton on Wednesday (18th August) where Stephen was completing a test at the Norfolk circuit and the deal was then agreed. This was the final day of a testing programme during which the Lola chassis, powered by the Zytek V8 engine, had covered 750 kilometres.
The four day Jerez test begins on Monday (21st August) with Stephen driving, On Tuesday Ralph will have a seat fitting and then will join Stephen on the 25th, 26th and 27th August to complete the all important hot weather test.
Commenting on Ralph's inclusion in the A1 Grand Prix team, Stephen said: "Ralph brings with him experience from his racing in Formula 1, Formula Nippon and also Le Mans. His feedback will be invaluable to us and I look forward to working with him"
Ralph, who is getting ready to leave for Spain, commented "The chance to be involved with the A1 Grand Prix project was a great opportunity for me. Stephen has brought me up to date with the work he has done so far, and now I can't wait to get behind the wheel of the car in Jerez. It has all the right ingredients to be a very successful racing car and I am sure will be fun to drive."
