Jordan and the Maktoum family

NEWS STORY

Last weekend, two newspapers published stories indicating that Dubai's Maktoum family was on the verge of purchasing the Jordan Formula One team.

That said, one paper suggested that the deal was on the verge of being done, while the other said that it had been done, and that the official announcement would follow within the next few weeks.

The truth is that a deal has not been done, nor is it about to be done, and according to our sources there are some very, very unhappy people at the moment, feeling (quite rightly) that the Maktoum name is being used.

According to the Irish Independent, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum has sought the aid of the Belgravia Group with a view to looking at the possibility of purchasing an F1 team, with the intention of raising Dubai's profile, but no deal has been done, indeed a number of teams are under consideration.

Last weekend's stories, and those that have followed are not based on fact, and it's understood that well-placed sources have deliberately arranged the leaks to further their own aims, whatever they might be.

However, some of the parties involved are far from happy. And that is a fact.
