Mr & Mrs Crompton: An Apology

NEWS STORY

Following a series of letters from lawyers acting for Mr and Mrs Glen Crompton, we wish to apologise for a spoof story that appeared elsewhere on this site suggesting that Mr Crompton was willing to offer up the naming rights of his two newly-born daughters in exchange for a suitable financial settlement.

The story was a spoof and in poor taste.

Although Mr Crompton has accepted gifts from a number of leading teams and sponsors in exchange for favourable publicity, he would never exploit a member of his own family.

It was a crass joke and in poor taste, for which pitpass humbly apologises. We fully realise that neither Mr Crompton nor his family members are for sale, at any price, to any party.

Finally, we have been asked to make it clear that Mr Crompton would never give favourable, positive publicity to anyone involved in F1, merely for a "handful of gold". It was wrong and reprehensible that we suggested that such was the case.

We hope that we may now draw a line under this sad episode and that Mr and Mrs Crompton will accept our apology in the spirit in which it is given.

We also wish to make it clear that no offence was intended towards the couple's daughters, Maxine and Bernice.
