The organisers of the Race of Champions, traditionally held in the winter on the Canary Islands, but now being transferred to the Stade de France, near Paris, have revealed that World Champion Michael Schumacher is to contest this year's event.
The event - scheduled for December 4 - features a series of shoot-outs, over a figure-of-eight, 'rally type' course, which sees contestants racing against one another, but also the clock.
Although more of a rally event, it has always attracted drivers from other disciplines, with Moto GP legend Valentino Rossi making his debut last year. While F1 stars, Nick Heidfeld, Fernando Alonso and Olivier Panis have also taken part.
Organisers admit that securing Schumacher is a massive coup, that is sure to attract many other top names, possibly even Rossi.
Schumacher revealed that he is looking forward to competing, saying that it will be "a lot of fun".
