It was another wasted day at Silverstone today, as snow and freezing cold conditions prevented the teams from carrying out any real work, other than systems checks.

The second day of testing began with a covering of snow, however, conditions improved through the morning and by early afternoon, there was some running prior to further snow showers later in the afternoon.

Renault drivers Fernando Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella were able to conduct limited pit-stop practice work with the race team, while Franck Montagny shook down a brand new R25 chassis prior to its departure for Melbourne.

"We continued preparations for the winter Olympics during the morning at Silverstone," said Christian Silk, "although the progressive improvement in conditions somewhat hampered our programme. However, on a more positive note, this did enable us to shake down the latest chassis for Melbourne, and to complete ‘live’ pit-stop practice with the drivers and race team during the early part of the afternoon. Our test will conclude tomorrow: hopefully, we will see some better weather and warmer temperatures to enable Franck to do some useful running."

Kimi Raikkonen was in attendance to shakedown the MP4-20 that he will be driving at Melbourne. The shakedown was scheduled to allow the team to run Kimi's chassis before the first Grand Prix of the new season, as it had been rebuilt at the McLaren Technology Centre following the damage sustained in Barcelona.

The Finn took to the track at 14:00 and completed the required programme, whilst conducting various systems checks on the car including fuel and hydraulics. At the conclusion of the day's programme, the car was returned to the McLaren Technology Centre, where it will be packed ready to leave for Australia this coming Friday.

As a consequence of the FIA regulation that states that teams are not permitted to simultaneously test at more than one circuit, the test team based in Valencia spent the day preparing the two MP4-19B's for tomorrow's session at the Spanish track, where work will focus on distance tyre testing with the compounds selected for Australia.
