Night stages of Formula 1

NEWS STORY
24/01/2024

Formula 1 is one of the most profitable sporting events.

The organizers decided to hold some stages at night to keep it that way and become even more attractive to investors. This made it possible to diversify the usual television picture and create a unique atmosphere in the stands and around the circuit. Today, the number of night grands prix is constantly increasing, so you cannot miss the opportunity to discuss them in more detail.

Why does Formula 1 need night racing?

Only those who know how to adapt to existing conditions can achieve the desired result. For example, some people put up their salvage Corvette for sale, trying to earn money and reduce the cost of buying a new vehicle. In contrast, others believe it is to save themselves from excessive expenses and receive the car of their dreams after restoration. The same principle applies in the case of Formula 1. For some, it offers a high-quality television product at an attractive price. For others, it allows them to earn money and covers the costs of organizing races. The desire to adapt to everyone's needs led to the appearance of night stages on the calendar. The later timing of the races allowed more viewers to watch the competition live. At the same time, the organizers got rid of the problem of excessive heat and difficult weather conditions, which are observed much more often during the day than at night.

Best night Grand Prix

The Formula 1 calendar has many events that take place after dark. Each of them is unique and interesting in its own way, so you need to pay attention to them. Thanks to the excellent illumination of the tracks, most of the night races are enjoyable for spectators and as safe as possible for the racers.

Las Vegas (USA)

A unique Formula 1 event is the Les Vegas Grand Prix. In 2023, he returned to the calendar after a long absence and immediately delivered an unforgettable race. The entire route consists of many straight sections and a minimum of turns. Because of this, it becomes one of the fastest in modern Formula 1. At the same time, there are places where drivers have to slow down to a minimum, experiencing massive overloads. Lighting in Las Vegas has never been a problem. The city, known for its active nightlife, ensured riders had enough light to compete safely. This was appreciated by Formula 1 executives, who concluded a ten-year cooperation agreement with Las Vegas. Thanks to this, all racing fans will have many more chances to see the best racers in the legendary American city.

Abu Dhabi (UAE)

This stage is attractive because it has completed the World Championship for the past few years. The route used is the only one in the world adapted to the changing time of day. The race begins at dusk and smoothly turns into a night race, creating additional difficulty for the racers and incredible intrigue for the fans. Because the UAE is one of the leaders in implementing new technologies, this Grand Prix has always surprised us with its innovations. Most of them concern the lighting system. It uses several thousand LED lights, which create an excellent television picture and shake numerous world stars who always come to Abu Dhabi with pleasure.

Singapore

This Grand Prix was a pioneer. It was he who, in 2008, gave rise to the appearance of night races on the calendar, which were previously considered impossible. To illuminate the entire route, the Asians used more than one and a half thousand special spotlights, the power of which was several times higher than traditional street lighting devices. Advanced technology ensures excellent visibility of every turn and helps avoid serious accidents. Today, Singapore is one of the most prestigious stages in history. Its winners were repeatedly won by riders who eventually won the overall World Championship standings.

Bahrain

In 2014, a significant event took place for all of Bahrain. Its race track was equipped with a lighting system, making the Formula 1 race a night race. This made it possible for spectators and racers to escape the heat, which prevented the regular running of the competition until 2014. Today, the organizers use about 500 lanterns to illuminate the track. They are located in such a way as to eliminate the possibility of areas that are not visible. Thanks to this, serious accidents rarely occur in Bahrain, despite the very high speed of racing cars. The postponement of the races also positively impacted the financial component. Thanks to the change in the timing of the competition, almost everyone can watch it live or visit the race track stands without fear of heatstroke.

Jeddah (Saudi Arabia)

Jeddah is one of the youngest racing tracks in the world. The Formula 1 stage held there is a night stage since high air temperatures can overheat the asphalt during the day and interfere with the competition. The heat also negatively impacts the riders' condition, which has been monitored quite carefully lately. During the day, the track at Jeddah seems standard and unremarkable. However, at night, it transforms and becomes one of the most interesting. For lighting, unique lights that fit well into the overall design of the track and perfectly perform their direct function are used.

Qatar

The Qatar Grand Prix is gradually becoming a traditional race on the Formula 1 calendar. The track used for the competition is one of the most recognizable in the world. Many lights illuminate it, so even the racers sometimes forget they are competing at night. The surrounding area is also illuminated well, so spectators at the race do not experience discomfort. An additional advantage of this stage is the predictability of the weather. Qatar almost never has any precipitation, and the air temperature often stays within predetermined limits. The competitions almost always take place without serious incidents, which is why the track in Qatar is considered one of the safest in the world.

Formula 1 is one of the most spectacular sports. The decision to hold some races at night played a significant role in this. This added uniqueness to the usual competition and made them even more profitable from a financial point of view. Almost every championship has new night stages. They all provide motorsport fans with an unforgettable experience and help them forget about everyday life briefly.
