Lewis Hamilton has admitted that he felt proud and moved as he watched last weekend's royal wedding.

Initially asked if he feels that "if the British royal family can become a bit more diverse, does it give you optimism that Formula One can become more diverse", following the ceremony that saw Meghan Markle wed Prince Harry, the Briton smiled and admitted: "I don't really connect the two to be honest...

"I watched here at the weekend," he continued, "I had a smile on my face the whole time, I think it was great to see such a positive change, it was great to see how happy they both were, it was just a really proud day I think. It was a proud day for me, for my family, for the world.

"It's always great to see positivity and change," he smiled, "the fact that you do have diversity in the royal family today, I think that's a huge thing. People probably don't realise how important that is. Even to see at the church, you had a mixture with the ministers, the music, the choir, it was really, really beautiful to see.

"I had the greatest weekend ever sitting there watching and seeing talented people playing their music, hearing them speak and then seeing this power couple walk out... it was the greatest wedding I've ever seen. And I'm not big on weddings at all, I avoid them at all costs. But this one was... I wished I was actually in England to have seen it. England on a sunny day... it's just so beautiful, with the castle and everything, it was pretty much a fairytale that I think the every kid and adult today, particularly if they're not married, dreams of having that kind of weekend."
