Hypersofts to make Monaco debut

NEWS STORY
28/03/2018

Pirelli has revealed the tyre compounds to be used in the Monaco Grand Prix in late May, and for the first of two successive races the new pink hypersoft is to be used.

The softest tyre in the Italian manufacturer's 2018 range will make its race debut on the streets of the Principality, with a number of teams, not least Mercedes, yet to run the compound having shunned it in pre-season testing.

As in Canada two weeks later, the ultrasofts and supersofts will also be used, the former making its fourth appearance of the year and the latter its fifth.

One set of ultrasoft and one set of supersofts must be available for the race and one of them must be used at some point in the race, while the hypersoft is the assigned tyre for Q3 in qualifying.

"@ Canuck

Our bad... it's Pirelli we blame though, what with this with this thing of announcing the selections for long-haul events 14 weeks in advance; and for European races 8 weeks in advance."

"Doesn't Monaco, May 27, come before Canada, June 10? Therefore I believe the hypersoft will make its race debut in Monaco and not Canada. Or is Pirelli using a different calendar?"
