British media claims Button to quit F1

NEWS STORY
21/09/2015

The British media is awash with stories this morning claiming that Jenson Button is to announce his retirement from F1.

A number of broadsheets and tabloids claim that following the breakdown of talks with Ron Dennis, the Briton will announce his retirement from F1 over the course of the forthcoming Japanese Grand Prix weekend.

A lifelong fan of Japan, having raced with Honda, and married Jessica Michibata who is Japanese-Argentine, Button even has a discreet tattoo on his ankle which reads Ichi ban ('Number One' in Japanese), though this was done before he won the title in 2009, and is also the name of his triathlon team. Since mid-2010, he has also sported the characters on his helmet. (Don’t go there)

While neither Button or McLaren is commenting on the speculation, the Briton was clearly exasperated following another retirement yesterday. His mood will not have been helped by the fact that Lotus subsequently announced that it has retained Pastor Maldonado, Button having referred to the Venezuelan as "mental" following an incident during yesterday's race.

"Ron, let Button & Alonso go to WEC to win LeMans. Put Stoffel & Kevin in the F1 cars. "

"Work the back of the F1 pack or host Top Gear?
.......Well which would you do ?
I must admit the idea of Webber, Hulkenberg, and Button racing Le Mans together does give me the chills.
And who knows, mabey Magnussen will be a good development driver. He has certainly shown great patience with the team!"

"It's all Ron's fault. If he hadn't screwed JB around over renewals last year and given him a 'proper' 2 year contract then He'd probably be staying. Both McLaren and Honda need a kicking for being to aggressive over packaging and forcing themselves into a corner with respect to design options for the recovery systems that would fit in the Vee of the engine. They've tried to run before they can walk and it's bit them on the bum. This hole will take them 2 more years to get out, if Honda (and McLaren) can stick it out that long, by that time JB and Alonso will have walked, they'll have no prize money and no sponsors. JB might as well cut his losses and go and do WEC with Webbo at Porsche, put the Hulk as 3rd driver and Le Mans is theirs.."
