Teams to ask EC for FIA probe?

NEWS STORY
27/04/2015

It is believed a number of teams are considering whether to ask the European Commission to investigate the FIA.

With Caterham having gone under and Marussia rescued at the eleventh hour, MEP Annaliese Dodds - in whose constituency many of those who lost their jobs lived - wrote to the European regulators last November calling on them to investigate the FIA and the way it handles F1.

Ms Dodds wanted to know how it is that the FIA has allowed a situation to come about whereby three teams - Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull received 46% of the sport's £484m prize pot and the top six teams have seats on the all-important Strategy Group.

According to the Sunday Express, a number of unnamed teams are now contemplating whether to lodge a complaint which would trigger the European Commission investigation Ms Dodds originally called for.

Competition Commissioner, Margrethe Vestager has apparently told the teams that unless they make a formal complaint the matter cannot be taken forward.

"The teams are considering their next course of action," a source told the paper.

Hmm... we wonder who those teams might be.

"Not only do I think that asking for an investigation is a good idea, from what I have see over the last 10 years, but especially the last five, is next to criminal. It is my belief that both the FIA and Mr. E's spider web of ownership/companies needs a thorough investigation. Whether it is the EU or some other authority, I really don't care. I will be 79 on my next birthday. I spent over 50 years of my life involved in business, much of it as senior management or a director. I in in shock almost on a daily basis at the rude and cocky attitude displayed when it comes to business decisions, dealing with the law, nurturing a sport, and caring for its participants. I understand that many people will disagree and say that there is no place for government to intervene and make impositions. However, when an organization exists which thumbs its nose at respect for and interest in its participants (USFormula1, Expense Caps, Marussia, etc.) to the detriment of the spot, someone needs to investigate. If the EU can use its authority to begin to expose how F-1 is really managed, I would say 'It's about time. What have you been waiting for ... ?""

"I hate the EC's nose getting into private business where we have a choice. But if there is such a thing as a true monopoly (impossible without government's backing) F1 is the closest thing. We're watching its death because the richest teams and Bernie are addicts. Merc, Ferrari, etc can't seem to pull the needle out of their arms to save the support, and ultimately, their own lives."

"If the EU (SSR) get involved , it will end up as a bigger fuster cluck .

Those rooks and incompetents are not going to achieve anything.

The teams would be better off holding a gun to Bernies head and negotiating direct.
