Stevens will not start Malaysia GP

NEWS STORY
29/03/2015

Manor reveals that Will Stevens will not contest today's Malaysia Grand Prix.

Just under an hour before the scheduled start the south Yorkshire squad tweeted: "Sadly Will is unable to start today's race as we have not been able to get on top of the fuel system problem from yesterday."

The Briton missed much of FP3 and all of qualifying due to the fuel system issue and it was only the benevolence of the stewards that he, and his teammate Roberto Merhi, who qualified out-side the 107% cut-off, were allowed to start.

Nonetheless, the late withdrawal of Stevens is a massive step-up from Melbourne where the team failed to turn a wheel all weekend, drawing the ire of Bernie Ecclestone who is understood to be docking them up to £2m in prize money.

"Good old Bernie, where the're's an opportunity, there's a payout for FOM. I wonder who can afford the $2m more, Manor or FOM? It really is nausiating - Bernie seems to have an agenda to get rid of Manor from the grid, whereas he should maybe think aboiut trying to help them become more competitive.

The Premier League recently announced that they have decided to pay out £1bn to support the lower leagues and club football. Maybe Bernie could learn a thing or two from them."
