Alonso cleared to travel to Malaysia

NEWS STORY
22/03/2015

Spanish media reports that Fernando Alonso has passed initial tests ahead of race return.

Spanish newspapers Marca and AS both quote sources close to the two-time champion who claim that he passed a number of tests at the University of Cambridge today including checks on his short and long-term memory as well as reflexes.

Whilst it's good news for the Spaniard, McLaren and his many fans, there are still hurdles to be crossed.

On Thursday, he will be examined by the circuit's chief medical officer following which Jean-Charles Piette, the FIA's medical delegate, will put him through the governing body's impact test which analyses his suitability to participate in the race by comparing his reactions and cognitive skills with his previous test results.

The accident last month in Barcelona, during which he was concussed, remains shrouded in mystery, with the FIA carrying out its own investigation into the circumstances surrounding it.

"Forgot to say, that many NFL players are now donating their brains to this cause for analysis to help further this concussion issue - much to learn !!"

"NFL US football has lots of guys who get concussed, unfortunate part of the game, and whats called a sub-concussion (below testable concussions) and it is an accumulative issue, the effects do not go away!!

The F1 G forces of some turns, the occasional spin and wall hits, are much like the hitting received by the lighter 'hit' players (non lineman or non running backs, etc) may get, lineman get hit constantly, so the long term injury is more slowly accumulated but still occurring.

There are even high school players (16/17 yr olds) who died for other reasons that show brain damage due to their playing football, some from 5-6 yrs old - (a reason many parents do not let their kids play but play US soccer instead - non contact) !!

There are many NFL players who after 5 yrs or less show Alzheimer's like behavior, anger, memory loss, violent actions, several have killed themselves due to it, others became alcoholics or drug addicts !!

So FIA should take very serious care in watching over drivers who get injured like Alonso, it could be a 'show up later' issue not deserved by anyone !!

NFL Players/doctors now say that you should NEVER play through a concussion/hard hit, rest for a while until absolutely zero signs show and then rest more !!

Good Luck Alonso, use Care, maybe sit this 2nd race out too - engine is crap anyhow !!"
