Sauber has announced a partnership with Hewlett-Packard, one of the world's largest technology companies.

This partnership allows the Swiss team to access the latest technologies from Hewlett-Packard and with this in mind, in close cooperation with the Hewlett-Packard High Performance Computing (HPC) Competence Center in Grenoble, a super computer has been developed which will mainly apply in the areas of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics).

It is a server specific solution, which is based on the workload optimised HP ProLiant Moonshot servers, as well as Server Blades of the latest Gen9 Generation. The High Performance Computing Cluster is specially designed to fulfil the requirements of the team with an extra high performance and efficiency. This will help to improve the processing capacity and significantly reduce the energy consumption in comparison to the current system.

The high performance computer was established in the wind tunnel building at the Sauber Motorsport AG in Hinwil and will operate from now on.

"We are very pleased to be able to work with a prestigious brand such as Hewlett-Packard," said Monisha Kaltenborn. "Together with the Hewlett-Packard HPC Competence Center in Grenoble, the high technical competence has allowed us to develop a high performance computer which is based on the most innovative technologies of Hewlett-Packard. This will improve our performance in the area of CFD."

"Formula One demands peak performance from individuals and technology," added Marcel Borgo, Managing Director, Hewlett-Packard Switzerland. "The successful ones constantly perform at the limits, therefore, belong to the best ones in its businesses. Hewlett-Packard is very pleased to support the Sauber F1 Team in the area of High Performance Computing and thus to strengthen the team. The cluster is based on advanced technology from Hewlett-Packard that offers the computer capability on demand. This is a key for the Sauber development team to have a crucial advantage on track."

"HP has a long history in F1 starting with Sir Jackie Stewart's team and a victory in Monaco. We made significant technology contributions to the sport and let's hope this can be the case with the Sauber partnership. Good luck.

"The worst managed company of all time "helping" Sauber? Nobody needs that kind of help! I can see the car going 180° different from the rest of the field."
