NEWS STORY
04/10/2014

Red Bull confirms that Sebastian Vettel is to leave the team at the end of the season, with Daniil Kvyat leaving Toro Rosso to partner Daniel Ricciardo.

In a brief statement issued at 1:50 local time in Suzuka, Red Bull issued the following statement.

The statement reads:

"Sebastian Vettel has advised us that he will be leaving Infiniti Red Bull Racing at the end of the 2014 season.

We want to warmly thank Sebastian for the incredible role he has played at Infiniti Red Bull Racing for the last six years.

Since joining the team in 2009, Sebastian, together with Infiniti Red Bull Racing, has scored 38 wins, 44 poles and eight World Championships, including four Drivers’ titles and four Constructors’. If you include Sebastian’s success at Red Bull’s second team, Scuderia Toro Rosso, the Red Bull total increases to 39 wins and 45 poles.

As we wish Sebastian well in the next stage of his career, we also look to the future with excitement, as the vacancy makes way for the next generation of Red Bull racers.

The Red Bull Junior Programme has developed some proven talents in recent times, including Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo, who has excelled in the RB10 and become a three-time Formula One race winner in his first season with the team.

We’re pleased to announce that Daniel will be joined in the team for 2015 by another rising star from the Junior Programme, Daniil Kvyat."

"If I was cynical then I'd say he's jumping ship so Ricciardo doesn't beat him hollow for a 2nd straight season and destroy his reputation even more."

"Strange decision, jump from the second most successful car in the championship to the 3-4th placed, and a team with two major " leadership " changes ( neither who have ANY race experience ......)

Maybe he knows something else ."

"@SteveAikens
Alonso has all but confirmed his departure today, he is weighing his options and has choices.
Vettel to Ferrari with Bianchi (my hope) next to him will freshen Ferrari so much more that all could come together much easier for 2015, and beyond..."

"So how does this effect Alonso? Is Ferrari fielding a 3rd car or is Alonso moving on? I'm please to see Vettel move to Ferrari. I'd love to see them - car and driver - both be back on top. Together, I see this a win-win in 2015. "

"@Burton
the Carlos Sainz' camp has been very vocal about their surprise of the Verstappen signing saying that it would be odd that the WSR 3.5 champ would not be in F1 in 2015... I the name Sainz carries great racing heritage and Carlos Sainz Jr is a hell of a driver. I fully expect him to get the drive and to be announced very soon."
