Schumacher's condition said to have worsened

NEWS STORY
29/12/2013

Following earlier reports it is now understood that Michael Schumacher's condition has worsened, the German's head injury now described as "critical"

While initial reports claimed the seven-time champion's injury was very serious, it soon became clear that this was an exaggeration.

However, on Sunday evening his condition is understood to have worsened, with some reports claiming that he has suffered a brain haemorrhage and others that he is now in an induced coma.

"He suffered head trauma with coma that needed prompt neurosurgical treatment," said Schumacher's agent in a brief statement this evening. "He remains in a critical condition."

His wife, Corinna, son, Mick and daughter Gina-Marie are at his bedside at the hospital in Grenoble.

The hospital is to hold an official press conference at 11:00 (local time) on Monday morning.

Meanwhile, as we await official news on the German’s condition, former rivals of the seven-time champ have taken to Twitter to wish him well.

"Come on Michael, give us one of those race stints at pure qualifying pace to win through, like you used to," tweeted racer turned broadcaster Martin Brundle. "You can do it".

"My thoughts are with Michael Schumacher at this tough time," wrote Jenson Button. "Michael more than anyone has the strength to pull through this."

"Hoping for some approved and positive news and a quick recovery for Michael!" added Nick Heidfeld.

"I hope Michael Schumacher will get well soon!" said countryman Adrian Sutil. "All my best to him and his family."

"I'm praying for God to protect you, brother!" wrote former teammate Felipe Massa "I hope you have a quick recovery! God bless you, Michael!"

"Fingers crossed.
As an EMS Technician myself I kind of trust the people treating him, having seem some very hard traumas that finally ended up —not without great efforts— in a healthy patient (I'd wish to have more medical information about his trauma condition and techniques applied to save him, yet I know that it's absolutely private information, as it should be)."
