Rosberg: Perez has issues

NEWS STORY
13/10/2013

Nico Rosberg has hit out at Sergio Perez, admitting to being delighted when the McLaren picked up a puncture following their clash in today's race.

The German was incensed by the Mexican's driving after the pair clashed twice during today's race. The Mercedes driver, who was hit with a drive-through following an unsafe release by his team - ironically intro the path of the Mexican - was later clouted by the McLaren as the pair battled for position.

"It's not good what he's doing, we know he has issues," Rosberg told reporters. "If you move once to block you have to move out of the way, the rules are clear.

"It was very good he punctured his tyre and then it was just onward from there," he added with a grin that epitomised the word schadenfreude.

Mercedes was already hurting following Lewis Hamilton's early elimination from the race, the Englishman sustaining damage when he collided with Sebastian Vettel on the first lap.

Despite the drive through and three stops for tyres, Rosberg made it home in eighth thereby salvaging four precious points for his team as it battles with Ferrari for the runner-up spot in the Constructors' Championship.

"I had such bad luck," said Perez, whose future at McLaren is said to be in doubt. "Things just didn't go our way today. In fact, I think you could say that everything that could go wrong did go wrong."

"I bet a large number of those now claiming that Perez doesn't belong in the sport were the same ones claiming the same of Grosjean not so long ago, you can be excused though as there are those better informed who have made similar knee jerk comments.....one of them, a Mr N lauder who claimed L Hamilton(2011) had no place in the sport but, no doubt has no qualms about lining his pockets from the proceeds of Lewis's efforts"

"Yes Kkiirmk, I agree, probably is a little too dramatic. The rest is accurate enough though. I am no Perez fan but most other drivers in F1 have gone through periods where they have done a lot worse."

"I hardly think Perez's life (or any mechanic) was in danger talby, a little over dramatic and hardly Rosberg's fault. I have to agree with Maria on this one too, McLaren is one of the great F1 teams and they don't need someone of Perez calibre playing bumper cars, they can do a lot better and Hulkenberg would be a great choice. You only have to look at Kimi's overtake on Hulkenberg in Japan to see how it can be done. "

"I agree with Rosberg. Perez is constantly pushing people off the track. This is his year, last year was Grosjean and Maldonado, the year before Hamilton.... Rosberg (or Mercedes) made a mistake but Perez does his thing Every race."

"And Rosberg leaving his pit box and nearly killing Perez and some Lotus mechanics while his red light was still lit isn't dangerous........"

"I am with Rosberg on this one, Perez is a train wreck of a mess who has no place in F1 racing. Mclaren did the biggest mistake of making the knee jerk reaction to Hamilton's departure by signing this over hyped loud mouth. Get the Hulk while you still can Mclaren, although Martin Bundle says Nico has already signed for a team and it isn't Sauber....
