Suzuka agrees new deal

Organisers at Suzuka have agreed a new deal which will see the Japanese Grand prix remain at the classic track until 2018.

In a statement issued today, Hiroshi Soda, president of the Mobilityland Corporation that runs the circuit for its owners Honda, confirmed that the deal had been agreed with Bernie Ecclestone.

The F1 supremo subsequently issued his own confirmation of the deal. "It has been agreed that the Formula One Grand Prix will be hosted at Suzuka Circuit until 2018," said Ecclestone in a brief statement. "It is also great to see Honda back in Formula One in 2015. I am sure that the Japanese Grand Prix will attract greater attention than ever."

F1 remains as popular as ever in Japan, despite the absence of a home driver this year, the ever popular Kamui Kobayashi failing to raise the necessary funding to secure a seat.

While Kobayashi remains hopeful of returning to F1 his chances look slim though a number of other locals are currently rising through the ranks.
