The British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) celebrated motor racing achievements of 2012 today at its Annual Awards.

The ceremony was attended by the great and good of British motor racing, including Stirling Moss, John Surtees, Jackie Stewart, Frank Williams, Derek Warwick, David Coulthard, Christian Horner, Ross Brawn, Eddie Jordan and Murray Walker.

The event, staged at The Grand Connaught Rooms in Central London, was also attended by the Club's President-in-Chief, HRH The Duke of Kent KG. His Royal Highness presented three trophies at the awards, while special guest and two-times Olympic Gold medallist Ed Clancy MBE presented 'The Colin Chapman Trophy' to Christian Horner, who steered his team to its third consecutive F1 clean sweep this season.

British achievements in F1 were further recognised with Lewis Hamilton being awarded 'The ERA Club Trophy' and Red Bull's Adrian Newey.

While Fernando Alonso was awarded the Johnny Wakefield Trophy for setting the fastest race lap of the season at Silverstone, Alex Zanardi was the highly popular recipient of the Innes Ireland Trophy which is awarded to the driver who best displayed the qualities of courage and sportsmanship epitomized by the late Innes Ireland.

Martin and Alex Brundles' assault on the 24 Hours of Le Mans was also recognised at the Awards, after the duo teamed up to pilot the Nissan-powered Greaves Motorsport LMP2 prototype in the legendary race. The father and son team were awarded 'The Woolf Barnato Trophy' by Murray Walker.
