The Singapore street circuit may already be one of the most challenging on the calendar, but drivers and teams look set to face an even tougher test with rain forecast across the weekend.

Typically hot and humid, Singapore has traditionally experienced overnight showers during the Grand Prix weekend, though the high temperatures have left the circuit dry by the time the cars took to the track.

Fans and drivers may be clamouring for shelter this weekend however, with thunder and lightning forecast for Friday's opening practice while Saturday is expected to by overcast and humid but dry.

Although the weather has often threatened in Singapore it has never hosted a wet race. In 2010 rain was predicted but never arrived. Red Bull's Mark Webber however, is unphased by the prospect of driving in the wet under lights.

"We haven't experienced rain in this venue and one of the things we need to experience, sooner rather than later, is to experience the spray," he said at the time. "My money is that everything will be fine."

If Sunday proves wet it will be the first race to be held in wet conditions under lights, which could prove to be a completely different sort of spectacle than the one Singapore is used to.
