McLaren asks Hamilton to delete Tweet

NEWS STORY
02/09/2012

Lewis Hamilton has become one of the most prolific users of Twitter in Formula One in recent weeks.

The 27-year-old has shared his thoughts and photos during sponsor events, media calls and even from the garage, attracting nearly a million followers.

While many have seen Hamilton’s Tweets as a breath of fresh air his Tweeting has got him in trouble more than once.

After qualifying he posted a message lamenting his performance in comparison with teammate Jenson Button. The message was followed by another on race morning showing McLaren’s telemetry revealing where Hamilton lost time in qualifying. Both Tweets were quickly removed, sparking suggestions the team had told its driver to delete the messages.

However speaking before the Belgian Grand Prix McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh told Sky F1 that while it had asked the 2008 world champion to delete the team’s telemetry from Twitter, Hamilton made the decision to deleted his post-qualifying Tweet.
