Contrary to previous reports, there is to be no government investigation of the deal which sees the BBC hand over F1 broadcasting rights to Rupert Murdoch's Sky empire.

Earlier this month, the Daily Mirror, reported that following a letter to the BBC from Don Foster, the Lib Dem spokesman for Culture, Media and Sport, in investigation was to be launched in the deal which has so enraged most British race fans.

However, contacted by Pitpass, a spokesperson for the Culture, Media and Sport Committee said: "There are no plans for the Committee to investigate this matter.

"We are aware of the report in the Mirror about this issue, but can confirm that they have their facts wrong. Don Foster is not even on the Culture, Media and Sport Committee," they added.

"The Committee has a watching brief on the BBC and will be holding its annual evidence session with the corporation in December. However, given the number of areas that the Committee will wish to cover with the BBC, I'm afraid that I cannot guarantee that the specific issue you raise will be covered."

So there you have it, nothing to see here, kindly move along.

However, before Bernie Ecclestone, Martin Whitmarsh, Adam Parr and co start slapping themselves on the back, perhaps they should await the results of our survey.
