Though it has yet to make an appearance this season, it could well be that the services of the Safety Car are required this weekend in Monaco. Driver Bernd Maylander gives a rare glimpse inside the Mercedes SLS AMG.

A Safety Car was first used in a race in 1973, and since 1996 Mercedes-Benz has been the supplier. Since then, nine different models featuring the three-pointed star have been deployed 136 times, leading the way for 580 laps.

Still to appear this year, it was deployed a total of 21 times across 19 circuits in 2010, more than ever before!

In addition to Maylander's rare behind the scenes glimpse of the 6.3 litre 570bhp V8 beast, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg share their thoughts, the seven time champion moaning that its too slow.
