Whitmarsh hoping to keep current line-up for five years

McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh has admitted that he would ideally like to retain his current driver line-up of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button for a further five years.

Speaking in Shanghai, ahead of this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix, the Englishman told reporters: "We have two drivers that do really have a particular bond. They like working together and are both enjoying it. I can't think of two drivers who are better communicators than Jenson and Lewis. And we've got both of them."

Last weekend, Hamilton, who has been associated with the Woking team since he signed to its Driver Development Programme at the age of thirteen, surpassed Jim Clark as the driver to have completed the most Grand Prix having only ever driven for one team.

Previously, the Scot held the record having driven for Lotus in 72 rounds of the Formula One World Championship, the Malaysian event marked Hamilton's 73rd outing with the Woking team.
