One of the key members of the organization team behind the forthcoming Indian Grand Prix has quit, just months before the inaugural race.

According to the promoters of the event, Mark Hughes, who was formerly a leading light at the Bahrain International Circuit, has quit his role in India citing "personal reasons".

"Mark Hughes is no longer working with us, he left due to his own personal reasons," Sameer Kumar, a spokesman for the Jaypee Group, promoters of the New Delhi event told AFP. According to reports, Hughes role is currently being handled by Azhar Rahman, a former organiser at Sepang.

"Work on the track is now going on at full swing," added Kumar. "We have about 6,000 people working on the circuit. Homologation of the circuit is expected to happen by July/August. All trackside infrastructure will also be completed well in time."

Taking to AFP, Hughes subsequently confirmed that he had resigned the Indian post and was now working with the organizers of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

"Whilst I am no longer based in India and I am working for the circuit in Abu Dhabi, I am still closely associated with Jaypee and am still advising them on the upcoming Indian Grand Prix." he said.
