Unsurprisingly, the row that has broken out between Toyota Motorsport and Hispania is over money. However, according to Pitpass sources the Spanish team has been give every chance.

According to our sources, an agreement was signed earlier in the summer which would see Toyota design Hispania's 2011 entry.

There was a question mark over the engine to be used, with Toyota keen to use its own powerplant - a practical move in terms of the car's design and systems - however, Hispania still had a deal with Cosworth.

As it continued with the programme, which included extensive CFD work, Toyota took on extra staff, fully expectant that things were moving forward.

Sadly, despite numerous reminders, it is alleged the money for the project was not forthcoming. Indeed, one source alleges that Hispania resorted to age old excuses such as "our systems down" but stopped short of claiming that 'the dog had eaten the invoice'.

A couple of weeks back a new agreement was reached and the matter appeared to be resolved but once again there was no money despite several more deadlines.

Though Toyota had sought an amicable solution and looked forward to returning to F1, albeit in a different guise, in the end there appears to be no other choice than to resort to legal action - which is direction in which the situation is now heading.

While it was involved with Hispania, Toyota motorsport had to turn other (F1) clients away - a doubler whammy in terms of money lost. Indeed, while our sources were unwilling to mention a precise figure, one did allege that the company is owed "several millions" by Hispania.

No doubt this news will cause consternation in Grove where Williams has agreed a deal to supply "gearbox technology" to the Spanish outfit. The British outfit can ill afford to be owed "several millions".

Sadly, this is not the first time Toyota has run into such problems, previously the team was 'involved' in Zoran Stefanovic's ill-fated dream to enter F1.
