Bridgestone's super soft tyre took Red Bull Racing's Sebastian Vettel to the fastest lap time on the first day of running for the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Vettel set a 1min 11.968secs lap in the final thirty minutes of the afternoon practice session at the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo. He was also fastest in the morning practice session, using the medium compound. In both sessions, Vettel's team-mate Mark Webber was second fastest.

What was significant about today's running?
Hirohide Hamashima - Bridgestone Director of Motorsport Tyre Development: "We saw uninterrupted running and good track surface improvement through the sessions. The weather was relatively hot, although not as hot as we have seen at this location in the past. These factors meant that both compounds of Bridgestone Potenza worked well. Graining was present both front and rear, but more prominent on the front tyres. Tyre appearance was very good showing that our tyres are coping very well with the conditions at this challenging and interesting circuit."

How do you expect this allocation to work over the weekend?
HH: "Even though the graining is more prominent on the front tyres, rear tyre degradation looks to be a greater consideration from the data and driver feedback we have seen so far. The competitors who manage their rear tyres well in the race will be in the best position to be successful. We must also consider the weather. There is rain predicted for Saturday so qualifying could well be interesting. Last year we saw very heavy rain for qualifying so we have to look to the skies to help decide which is the best tyre for the conditions."
