Ever since Toyota pulled out of the sport at the end of 2009, numerous teams and consortiums have been linked with what remains of the Japanese manufacturer's F1 project.

According to whatever media source your read, one of the strongest rumours was that linking Serbian Zoran Stefanovic with the Cologne-based unit. However, despite much work and effort - certainly on the part of those still working in Cologne - it came to nought, Stefan Grand Prix, having no money, no backing and no serious prospects, proving to be little more than a figment of someone's imagination.

The latest outfit to be linked with Toyota however, appears a little more plausible, though, based on previous experience, it might be wise to take everything with a (large) pinch of salt.

More recently 2011 hopefuls Durango, who are collaborating with former World Champion Jacques Villeneuve, have been linked with the car which has been driven by ex-Williams driver Kazuki Nakajima. Images of the car are carried in the July issue of Racecar Engineering magazine, which describes the design as having "one of the most extreme diffusers yet," along with adjustable ride height suspension.

Now, Italy's 422race.com claims that Hispania and Toyota are close to a deal, with Jose Ramon Carabante (right) said to be near to agreeing terms with the Cologne-based constructor despite fears over funding.

Although no solid information is given, it is understood that Hispania - whose 2010 car was designed by Dallara - has secured the necessary funding to remain in F1 beyond the end of this season and secure a partnership with Toyota.

Such is the sense of anticipation, it is said that Toyota - which released 500 staff in December - is now advertising for new engineers while seeking agreement with those engineers still on the payroll.

At a time when at lest three teams are hoping to secure the thirteenth entry for 2011, Bernie Ecclestone has said that he will be surprised to see all twelve of the current teams remain.

Contacted by Pitpass, Toyota was giving nothing away this morning, a usually reliable source refusing to confirm or deny the reported link with Hispania.
