Montezemolo: This is unacceptable

NEWS STORY
28/06/2010

At his team's post-race briefing in Maranello this morning, Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo voiced his opinion on yesterday's European Grand Prix, calling on the FIA to investigate after its rivals did not respect the rules.

Clearly, even twenty-four hours later, the anger and frustration is still there, with di Montezemolo now throwing his weight behind his team's cry of foul.

"The result of yesterday's race was misrepresentative," he said. "Ferrari, which showed itself to be competitive in the European Grand Prix, paid a price that was too high for respecting the rules. Meanwhile those who didn't follow the rules were penalised by the race officials in a way that was less severe than the damage suffered by those who did respect them.

"That is a very serious and unacceptable event that creates dangerous precedents," he continued, "throwing a shadow over the credibility of Formula One.

"However, we are sure that the FIA will fully analyse what happened, taking the consequent necessary decisions. Ferrari will watch this with interest."

The team also used quotes from its own forum - surely not the most independent of sources - to back up its claim. "The decision of the race officials on Hamilton is SHAMEFUL!" writes one poster, "McLadren (McLaren thieves) up to their usual dirty tricks."

While Envyme, launched his attack on the FIA: "Federation of clowns! What help is a five-second penalty?" they wrote, adding, with more than a touch of irony: "Useless and the usual English mafia!"

Maranellolover (natch), takes issue with the true 'culprit: "Enough with the help for Hamilton," they write. "How can he lie and cheat and still get away scot-free?"
