di Montezemolo continues new team bashing

NEWS STORY

With Ferrari having already made its feelings regarding the new teams quite clear, team president Luca di Montezemolo has now launched a fresh attack.

At the height of last year's FOTA/FIA 'disagreement', Ferrari made its feelings well known. As it threatened to leave F1, in the face of a budget cap being imposed, the Maranello outfit rubbished the new teams.

Then, in February, with continued doubt as to whether Campos Meta and USF1 might make it to the grid, the Italian team lashed out at the FIA and its former president Max Mosley, claiming that the debacle was the result of his "holy war". Referring to Stefan GP, which according to some media outlets had purchased Toyota's 2010 car and would be lining up on the grid in Bahrain, the Maranello outfit described Zoran Stefanovic's outfit as "the Serbian vultures".

Clearly still unhappy, di Montezemolo has launched another attack on the newbies, claiming that they have no place on the F1 grid.

"Cars who perform at GP2 level should not be allowed to participate in F1 races because they are supposed to race on Sunday mornings," he told Gazzetta dello Sport, a clear reference to last weekend's race in Canada when Felipe Massa's race was effectively ended following two separate incidents involving backmarkers.

"Our car's race pace was good enough for victory," insisted di Montezemolo. "Let's hope that, in the future, there won't be mistakes in pushing a button nor in lapping cars that put us at a disadvantage, because we've already gone though that."

The Italian failed to mention that in one incident, Massa was forced off track by a former Ferrari driver, a certain Michael Schumacher.
