Ocean returns to Abu Dhabi

NEWS STORY
01/02/2010

Ocean Racing Technology will take to the race track once again this weekend when the Portuguese GP2 team picks up the Asian series where it left off in November, at the Yas Marina circuit. The team will rely on its new driver duo - handpicked to also defend their colours in the main series - in Abu Dhabi. For Fabio Leimer and Max Chilton, the impending mission will also assist in preparing them for the upcoming GP2 series.

The second round in Abu Dhabi will be of major importance because it will enable the team to gather data in preparation for the final of the GP2 main series, which will be held during the Formula one season finale on the same circuit in mid-November. In Fabio Leimer's last outing in Abu Dhabi, already behind the wheel of one of Ocean Racing Technology's contenders, the talented Swiss driver secured the 3rd fastest time in qualifying while in the race, his pace was fast and consistent and he interacted perfectly with the team. At just 20 years of age, he proved that his title in the International Masters Formula was well earned and his objective now will be to start 2010 off on a good note by securing points in the first race of the year.

For Max Chilton, Abu Dhabi will not be a new discovery but the young Englishman will dispute his first race meeting for the Ocean Racing Technology team. Only 18 years old, Max already has a vast amount of experience in motor sport which attracted the attention of Tiago Monteiro and Jose Guedes. In 2009, he secured a brilliant 4th place in the English Formula 3 championship and proved that he was ready for a new challenge. His ease at the wheel of a GP2 car suggests that he is one of the drivers of the new generation to be followed.

Ocean Racing Technology approaches the second round at Abu Dhabi with 7 points and 5th place in the team's classification, just two points shy of 3rd place. Their objective will be to leave the Yas Marina circuit having accumulated kilometres and experience for their drivers, as well as points with the championship in mind. It should be sunny on the fifth and sixth of February in Abu Dhabi with temperatures reaching 30 degrees C and the weather conditions will make for an even greater challenge for the cars and drivers.
