2009 Formula One World Champion Jenson Button and his team boss Ross Brawn have been recognised for their achievements in the New Year Honours.

The awards come less than a year after both men appeared to looking at a bleak future following Honda's withdrawal from F1 in December 2008.

However, a management-led buy-out of the Brackley team in early March, just weeks before the season got underway, was the first step in what many believe to be one of the true sporting fairytales of modern times. From the very moment it took to the test track it was clear the BGP 01 was the car to beat, with Button taking full advantage in order to wrap up both titles.

Button is honoured with an MBE while Brawn, who has won titles with Benetton, Ferrari and his own team, is honoured with an OBE.

"This really is the crowning glory to what has been the most incredible year of my life," said Button. "I'm incredibly proud to have joined the likes of Mike Hawthorn, Graham Hill, Jim Clark, John Surtees, Sir Jackie Stewart, James Hunt, Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill and Lewis Hamilton as British Formula 1 world champion. But to be recognised by the Queen and the British people is a tremendous honour."

The 29-year-old was quick to pay tribute to those that helped his realise his dream. "Everybody at Brawn GP played their part and it was down to their expertise, dedication and hard work that we were able to achieve so much," he said. "Many people played a role in my world championship and in receiving this award, I want to acknowledge and thank them for all their efforts."
