Force India's Adrian Sutil has been given an official reprimand and a $20,000 fine for the accident which caused both he and Nick Heidfeld to retire from the race.

The incident occurred on the 19th lap of the race when Sutil, who was attempting to pass Jaime Alguersuari, spun off line. He then attempted to re-join the track without fully ensuring that it was clear and was promptly hit by Nick Heidfeld.

"I finally saw a chance. I tried and it wasn't enough," said Sutil, "I was a little late on the brakes, spun and that's it. Then Nick came around the corner and hit my front wing as I was stuck in the corner. I didn't see him coming as I was on the move already and couldn't react to it, but I'm sorry for it. It was a race incident."

Heidfeld saw it slightly differently, and certainly not as a "race incident". "For me it was clearly Adrian Sutil's fault," said the BMW driver. "Obviously I saw it from the inside and later also on TV. He had spun backwards and then just drove back onto the track and straight into my car. That's something you just can't do."

The Race Stewards also saw it differently to Sutil, finding the German guilty of breaching Article 16.1 of the 2009 FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations, for which he was given an official reprimand and asked to cough up $20,000.
