Earlier this week, as part of its attempt to destabilise FOTA, the FIA let slip that when previously agreeing a deal with Ferrari which would give the Italian team special rights, it was also agreed that the Maranello outfit would have the right to veto new rules.

Naturally this revelation didn't go down well with the other nine teams that comprise FOTA, however, judging by yesterday's meeting, when all ten teams agreed to withdraw from F1 unless the FIA rethinks its plans for a budget cap, the original ploy didn't work, for the teams' alliance remains united.

Interesting therefore, considering this week's revelation, that in February 2005, when asked by CNN if the FIA had agreed a deal with Ferrari over rule changes, Max Mosley was quick to go on the offensive, describing the claim as "a fairy tale" that was "without logic".

"If I could, I'd slow them (Ferrari) down," he added. "There is nothing worse for Formula One than the same team always winning."

The other nine teams contesting the 2005 championship boycotted the meeting, a move, which Mosley admitted, would go against them.

Those boycotting will earn nothing through their tactics," he said. "At the end of 2005, there will be a new set of rules laid out, which will run until 2008."
